We began the day with a march down to the barn. We debated on how we would approach the current challenge; to learn and choreograph a dance strictly from a video. We understood the physical limitations that each other had and molded our approach to fit them.
Upon arriving, we put on some music and proceeded to hop and dance around, seeking insight from the Dance Gods. They heard our muses and granted us with an appropriate video. This video was none other than “One” from “A Chorus Line”.
With a unanimous decision, we began work. One of the biggest issues we encountered throughout the process was the number of members we had in comparison to the number of dancers in the video. Through a bit of brainstorming, we came to the conclusion that we should choreograph some of our own moves to fill the spaces that weren’t compatible with our setup.
After a few hours and couple of rainstorms, we had the dance down way ahead of schedule. This proved to be very beneficial, as we had some extra time to perfect the minor details.
Once we had run through the routine for a final time, we reminisced on the improvement we had from the morning. Only after teamwork, compromise, and repetition did we complete the task. We learned from this challenge the value of working together, moving in unison with your peers, and dancing like you just don’t care.
