Unschool Adventures designs and leads innovative trips, both domestic and international, for independent teenagers. No two trips are the same, and each is designed with a specific mission in mind. We typically run one to two trips per year.
Our trips are designed for homeschoolers, unschoolers, and other self-directed students, ages 14-19. If you'd like to learn more about the educational philosophies that motivate us, we recommend Grace Llewellyn's Teenage Liberation Handbook, the works of John Holt and John Taylor Gatto, and our director's own College Without High School.
Enrollment in UA trips is offered to any teen who is enthusiastic and prepared for a specific trip--there are no formal requirements for what "type" of student you are. If you're new to homeschooling and want to "test the waters", an Unschool Adventure is also a strong opportunity. Other companies that we highly recommend are Not Back to School Camp and Homeschool Leadership Retreats.
Unlike other travel companies where a teen might be treated like a child or part of a tourist herd, we grant our students large degrees of both freedom and responsibility (always within reasonable safety limits). On our trips you'll find yourself exploring foreign cities in small groups, figuring out how to cook dinner from scratch, and enjoying off-the-beaten-path destinations.
